This is one of the most affordable health insurance cover provided in Kenya by Jubilee Health Insurance. Coverbora provides for inpatient coverage only with 3 levels:

  1. 250K inpatient with 40K maternity cover
  2. 350K inpatient with 50K maternity cover
  3. 500K inpatient with 75K maternity cover

The Coverbora health insurance package:

  1. Has a single premium for individuals
  2. A single premium of  up to 4 additional family members, then an additional premium for any extra person after.

Kenyan Alliance 

Kenyan Alliance controls 1.14% of the health insurance market in Kenya, placing it in 13th place in the list of health insurance companies in Kenya.

The KAI health insurance plan comes in two options:

  1. 300K-1M Inpatient limit, which excludes the tier 1 hospitals from their medical service providers.
  2. 2M-5M inpatient limit, which includes coverage to tier 1 hospitals.
  3. The outpatient comes with a limit of dental and optical services.  
  4. The inpatient cover also comes with an inbuilt maternity limit 
  5. The Kenya Alliance Health plan also caters for passive terrorism to the full inpatient limit.
  6. Medical examination is required for people aged 55 years and above.
  7. The KAI cover accepts applications for people between 18-65 years.

Madison Insurance for Competitive Pricing for Individuals 

Madison Insurance controls about 4.22% of the health insurance market in Kenya, placing it at position 8 in the list of health insurance companies in Kenya. Madison has rebranded its cover to the Madison Betterlife cover. 

Madison Betterlife comes in 3 categories:

This cover provides access to tier 1 hospitals, and the benefits are as below:

  1. The cover caters for inpatient limits of between 1M-5M Inpatient.
  2. The inpatient cover comes with an inbuilt maternity cover of between 100-200K limit
  3. The cover comes with the shortest waiting period for psychological and counseling for 30 days
  4. The outpatient cover varies between 100K-200K
  5. The outpatient comes with an inbuilt dental limit of between 15K-25K each 
  6. Madison Betterlife provides a lifetime cover for people who join the cover before age 64 years, subject to renewal terms and conditions.
  7. New applications being received for people above 50 years are accompanied by a medical examination.


The Madison Betterlife Budget cover provides medical insurance to tier 2 hospitals and 3 hospitals only, and the health insurance benefits are as below:

  1. Inpatient limit of between 500K-1.5M Inpatient with inbuilt maternity of between 30K-75K
  2. Outpatient limit of between 50K-100K with an inbuilt dental and optical cover limit of between 5K-10K.
  3. Being a budget cover, it provides for dental and optical services within its outpatient limit compared to other budget cover options available in the market.
  4. The Betterlife Budget health plan provides for speech therapy, as well as for counseling services.
  5. Medical exams are needed for new applications for people aged 50 years and above.
  6. The Betterlife Budget cover is provided for a lifetime, subject to renewal terms and conditions.

MUA 

MUA Insurance has a health insurance market share of 1.38%, placing it 12th in the list of health insurance companies in Kenya. It has two products, one being its Kenyan offering of the Tulizo Bora health insurance plans and its collaboration with Unisure to underwrite its umatter international private medical insurance.

Tulizo Bora is a buildable health insurance cover in Kenya, with the features below:

  1. It comes with an inpatient cover of between 500K-5M
  2. Tulizo Bora has an optional maternity of between 50K-150K
  3. It has an outpatient limit of between 75K- 150K
  4. The dental and optical benefits of Tulizo Bora come in two variations, where you can either purchase the full benefits separately or have it as per the outpatient benefits.
  5. New medical insurance applications for Tulizo Bora Health Plan for people aged 50 years and above must be accompanied by a medical exam.
  6. The maximum age for acceptance into the Tulizo Bora cover is 65 years, and the cover is renewed up to 75 years subject to renewal terms and conditions.

In collaboration with Unisure, MUA Insurance underwrites the flagship corporate international private medical insurance Umatter.   This particular cover comes with:

  1.  An inpatient limit dubbed serious matters of 5M USD
  2. Additional limits on maternity dubbed family matters
  3. Outpatient limits called daily matters, which are covered to full limit but medicine and surgical dressing capped at 2K USD and HIV/AIDS drug therapy at 20K USD annually
  4. General wellness check-ups termed as wellness matters of up to 12.25K-25.5K USD normal and elective CS and medically necessary CS 
  5. Optical and dental covers are dubbed Opti-Denti Matters of up to 400 USD and 4.25K dental.

Old Mutual Insurance For Insurance Legacy 

Old Mutual Insurance controls 16.04% of the health insurance market in Kenya, placing it number 2 in the list of health insurance companies in Kenya. This is one of the oldest insurance companies and hence one company with a long insurance legacy to back it up.

Old Mutual Insurance provides 4 types of health insurance plans in Kenya:

This is the standard Old Mutual Health Insurance cover for individuals and families. The cover is available to individuals aged between 18-65 and renewable for life subject to renewal invitation.

 Afyaimara health insurance cover provides benefits as below:

  1. Inpatient cover of between 500K-10M with an inbuilt maternity of between 50K-200K 
  2. Outpatient cover of between 50K-200K, which comes with a family shared option and a per person option with an inbuilt dental and optical limit of between 10k-15 for outpatient limits of 100K and above.
  3. An annual wellness check of between 5K-10K for outpatient limits above 100K.
  4. Supplements are covered, where they have direct action in managing a diagnosed condition 
  5. Afyaimara provides for a critical illness cover of up to 750K, irrespective of the inpatient limit.
  6. A medical examination report is required for new applicants aged 60 years and above.

This cover is available to our seniors who would like to join the old mutual family from 65 years to 80 years and renewable for life. This is the flagship senior medical insurance cover in Kenya. 

The health insurance comes with:

  1. Inpatient limit of between 500K-10M
  2. Outpatient limit of between 100k-200K
  3. Optical and dental covers are available for purchase
  4. Annual wellness covered between 5K-10K.
  5. A medical examination is needed before cover acceptance.

This is a child-only medical insurance cover provided by Old Mutual Insurance. Afyaimara Juniors cover comes in two main variations:

  1. Afyaimara Junior Unlimited – This child-only medical cover in Kenya gives you access to an open hospital provider panel.
  2. Afyaimara Junior Getrudes Only- This child-only health insurance covering Kenya gives you access to Gertrude’s Children Hospitals only 

The child-only cover comes with:

  1. Inpatient limit of between 500K-5M
  2. Outpatient limit of between 50k-150K
  3. The cover can be extended until the child is 21 years old as long as there is proof of schooling.

This is the budget plan provided by Old Mutual Insurance for budget-oriented people. Afya Imara insurance cover provides:

  1. Inpatient cover limit of between 100K-1M with inbuilt maternity limits of between 30K-50K for inpatient limits of between 250K-1M, respectively.
  2. An outpatient limit of between 25K-50K
  3. A dental and optical cover provided within the 50K limit only up to 10K each.
  4. Medical examination is required for applicants of Afyaimara County aged 60 years and above.
  5. The joining age to the cover is between 18-65 years.

This cover was designed for Old Mutual Insurance clients looking to have enhanced limits from their basic cover. The Afyaimara Executive medical plan comes with two main levels of coverage as below:

  1. A 10M inpatient limit with an inbuilt maternity cover of 400K and an optional outpatient limit of 200K
  2. 20M inpatient limit with an inbuilt maternity cover of 600K with an optional outpatient cover of 250K
  3. Both limits come with a wellness check-up option of 50K within the outpatient limit
  4. The cover also comes with a dental and optical check-up limit of 25K within the outpatient limit.
  5. New members aged 60 years and above must submit a medical examination report as guided by the insurer.
  6. New member applications are accepted for up to 80 years, and renewals are done up to 85 years.

Pacis Insurance Company controls 1.47% of the health insurance market in Kenya, placing it at position 11 on the list of health insurance companies in Kenya. This is the first-ever religious-owned entity to provide sustainable funding for projects in the Catholic Church in Kenya.

Through the Pacis Amani medical insurance cover, an individual or a family can be able to enjoy:

  1. Affordable premium costs.
